Thanh Hoa has a rich history and unique cultural traditions. In the early Paleolithic period, by the discovery and archaeological excavation of the sites of Do Mountain, Quan Yen Mountain, and Nuong Mountain, Thanh Hoa was confirmed as the place where primitive people lived, especially Con Mong cave was the place where witnessing the continuous stages of human development from the Late Paleolithic period to the New Stone Age.

The Neolithic people's process of conquering the plain in Thanh Hoa left behind the Da But culture, a progressive archaeological culture at the same time in the region 6,000 years ago. At the beginning of the Metal Age, belonging to the Bronze Age, through the development steps with the stages before the Dong Son culture, Thanh Hoa went through a development process with the cultural stages: Con Chan Tien, Dong Block - Quy Chu is equivalent to the Phung Nguyen - Dong Dau - Go Mun cultures in the Red River basin.

During the thousands of years of history of building and defending the country, Thanh Hoa has appeared many national heroes and typical celebrities such as: Ba Trieu, Le Hoan, Le Loi, Khuong Cong Phu, Le Van Huu, Le Thanh Tong, Dao Duy Tu, ... Along with heroic historical pages, Thanh Hoa has 1,535 relics, of which 134 relics are ranked at national level, 412 relics are ranked at provincial level with famous relics such as Do Mountain, Dong Son, Ba Trieu, Le Hoan relics, Ho Dynasty citadel, Lam Kinh, Ba Dinh, Ham Rong... further confirm that Thanh is a "Land of outstanding people".
